The Princess and the Search for Happiness

Kawaii box review

There was once a princess who was feeling quite sad. She had read all of the Harry Potter books, watched Fantastic Beasts for the 1000th time, and eaten most of her Marvellous Creations chocolate bar but she was still not happy. So the prince had a brilliant idea and decided to buy her a Kawaii Box* to cheer her up.

And, Breathe

kawaii fashion, hello kitty onesie, Modes4U

Life passes by so quickly that sometimes it's nice to just take a step back for a moment, breathe, and then think, "what the hell just happened?!" I was having one of those moments the other day where I was feeling overwhelmed by everything that's been going on and almost had a complete meltdown... But as if by some magical force, my package from Modes4u* arrived a week later which contained a super cute Rilakumma cup. So I scheduled a time out, slipped into my onesie and made myself some hot chocolate with marshmallows.

And here we are. So, let’s have a little catch-up, shall we?

How to Be Positive Without Being Fake

positivity, blogger, jfashion blogger, gyaru blogger

How many times a day do you see things like "good vibes only" or "always look on the bright side of life?" I know I'm not the only one who said at least 5 times. Being positive is pretty much shoved down our throats and there's always one inspirational post displayed on social media every day that the whole meaning of being positive is lost. Instead we find ourselves putting on a fake smile and pretending to be positive without actually feeling positive.

I've been there done that, and to be honest it was awful. I tried to be such a positive blogger but not being able to connect with my true feelings was self destructive.

This year I made it my goal to be a lot more open with my emotions and not to be that person who pretends everything is rainbows and unicorns. So here are my top tips on how to be positive without being fake!

What I Love About Halloween

halloween, pumpkin carving

I can't believe Halloween is only a few days away! Where has the time gone? As I write this post I haven't yet watched a single Halloween film *gasps of horror* but I really hope that by the time this goes live that I would've seen at least one.

There are so many things that I love about Halloween and I'm surprised that I haven't dedicated a whole post to it. Better late then never, aye? So here's what I love about Halloween!

Of Vampires and Mary Sues

rokku gyaru, alternative fashion, vampire, killstar

Did you ever used to watch Mona the Vampire? I used to love that program when I was a child, dressing up as her and defeating imaginary monsters. I had an obsession with vampires back then; my favourite film was Van Helsing (looking back now I realise that it wasn't actually that great a film) and I could quote it word for word with one of my closest friends. I even re-enacted a few scenes - how embarrassing is that? I just loved how no matter how smoking hot and deadly vampires were, they literally did go up in smoke in a little bit of sunlight. They had a weak spot.

Trick or Treat! Halloween Goodies and Makeup Haul

halloween haul, makeup, halloween shopping

Trick or Treat! Or, in my case, just the treat side of things. I couldn't help myself searching for some Halloween goodies but I feel like the more I love Halloween, the less that shops stock of it. How typical is that? It's mid-October but shops have reduced their Halloween accessories to but a single aisle and has been taken over by *whispers* glittery baubles and sparkly tinsel. That's right, Christmas stuff. It's probably a good thing because I'm desperately trying to save money right now, but I couldn't help myself to a few bits and bobs as well as some makeup goodies.

Crop It Like It's Hot

lace crop top, shop tobi, outfit post

I rarely wear crop tops, and when I do my midriff is usually covered up, so when I saw this gorgeous crop top from Tobi* I took the leap and paired it with some "high waisted" jeans as an effort to cover up that part of skin but ultimately failed. But instead of feeling horribly exposed, I felt amazing.

Mother of Cats and Inspirational Slumps

uk gaijin gyaru

My idea of heaven would be to drink hot chocolate in a comfy sofa, surrounded by cats. Luckily heaven is a place on earth - the cat café in Nottingham was just under a couple of hours away, and it was the perfect spot for our next QueenE gyaru meet hosted by our member Rachel. We've been trying to do more 'themed' meet ups with our gyaru circle and the cat café - aka Kitty Cafe - was at the top of our list.

A couple of days prior to the meet, I was in the mother of all slumps. I just couldn’t bring myself to be inspired no matter how many times I revisited my old blog posts nor look at old gyaru tutorials, I just couldn’t bring myself to be gyaru. This feeling has come and gone since I wrote my post on the fact that I’m turning into a boring old fart in terms of my style, but it hit me so hard that I felt like just staying in bed all day. Somehow I managed to drag myself out, slap on some gyaru makeup, and drive through the chaotic roads of Nottingham to meet up with my fellow circle members.

And after that, I was fine.

I'll Take You To The Candy Shop... Japan Candy Box Review!

Japanese sweet, Japan Candy Box, yummy candy

One of the best things about Japan are the sweets, so when Blippo's Japan Candy Box* for September arrived at my doorstep I was bursting with excitement. I was good, though, and didn't immediately open it but waited for the weekend to arrive before I gently lifted up the lid to take a peek inside and boy there was a lot of candy. There was no way I could eat all of it! So I asked my other half to help me out and we spent the afternoon chomping on all of these sweet goodies.

It was quite the experience - I didn't know any of the products I was eating but overall they were very tasty and I was left nursing a very sweet tooth (so worth it). There was even enough to keep snacking on for the next couple of days! However there were a few that were clearly my favourites...

Basic Witch

onee gyaru, rokku gyaru, alternative fashion, nu goth
Dress from Tobi*

There's a time in everyone's life where they dabbled in a bit of magic. I was just starting out in secondary school (so around 13 years old) when a sparkly blue cover caught the corner of my eye, and upon pulling it out from where it was crammed on the library shelf I discovered that it was a beginner's guide to white magic (aka Wicca). It didn't take me long to check it out and for several months after I was obsessed with it when, like the typical teenager I was, I got bored and it was left to gather dust on my bookshelf.

Crazy, Stupid Owl

owl experience day
When you got the proper glove on but it lands on your arm instead

I feel like this should be a somewhat poetic post or something that resonates with you but really I just wanted to write a post about how much I love owls. I could pretend to be a better blogger by then delving deep into the philosophy behind this feeling; Is it because I love the way their soft feathers brush against my skin even though I cannot myself touch them? Or does it go even deeper and draws a connection with how I love the moonlight and how mysterious it can be?

Nope, I just love owls because they’re stupid.

Whimsical Wandering: Himeji Castle & Hello Kitty Café

Himeji castle

Most castles in England are in ruins, so you could imagine what it was like for me to see a fully-formed and beautiful Himeji castle in Japan. It was a real building - all standing proud on top of a hill, and it looked amazing. I had seen photos of it before but it didn't really do it justice... The only downfall was that the cherry blossoms hadn't bloomed yet, but nevertheless it was so pretty.

But Himeji castle was quite far out, so after some research I discovered that there was a Hello Kitty cafe not too far away (thank you, the cat you and us!). Pretty castles and a Hello Kitty cafe?! What could be better!

The Fear of Becoming Boring

ane agejo

When I first started agejo I didn't think I'd love it. Sure, it looked cool and sexy, but was it really the style for me? I was in that stage where I wanted to try out as many substyles of gyaru as possible, but sure enough I fell head over heels in love with agejo.

Many years down the line I still love wearing it, but I've now grown into the style as an ane agejo (which is basically the more mature version of it). While I was on the fashion show at Hyper Japan, though, I couldn't help but feel incredibly boring. In previous years I would've gone over-the-top and have massive hair with so many accessories, but now? I'm not too sure...

This had been on my mind quite a lot recently as I noticed that my engagement with others in the community were dwindling. I know that numbers aren't everything, but I was getting a lot less likes and views and I'm worried that even my blog was suffering. What was wrong with me? I got so upset that I just stopped posting on social media for a while apart from on Twitter, because I just didn't want to face the fact that I was getting boring.

The Secret's Out... The Canal House

The Canal House, Birmingham, James Brindley, flaming cocktails

I've "levelled up" in my blogging career in the sense that I attended my first launch event with my DSLR in hand, like the true blogger that I am. I was so nervous; what if people didn't like it that I took pictures with them in it? What if they thought I was a weirdo? These thoughts were swiftly brushed aside as I approached The Canal House.

And boy, it was huge.

Growing Old but Never Growing Up

Birthday girl, rokku gyaru, alternative fashion

I couldn't think of another way to write this title - yep, another year has come and gone but I still feel the same apart from the fact that I can spend the day showering myself with gifts. Take this unicorn balloon, for instance... Isn't it magical? I've loved unicorns ever since I was a child and I still have my unicorn plushie that I got when I was around 8 years old. Some people would call me sad, but I call myself a "big kid".

I wasn't too sure what to wear this year - I wanted to be cute and wear pink, but I'm also super excited for Halloween and wanted to channel goth vibes so I thought... Why not do both? And here I am! I want to do this a lot more because I had so fun wearing it and I felt a lot more than myself. I love agejo, don't get me wrong, but it's nice to wear something completely different every now and then. I feel like a gothic princess when wearing this and for once I'm happy that it's not absolutely boiling outside so that I can wear my darker wardrobe.

Disneybound Mulan: If Mulan was Gyaru...

Vest: Boohoo / Distressed shorts: Boohoo / Jersey kimono: Boohoo / Over the knee boots: Boohoo / Khaki metal trim back pack: New Look / Dragon necklace: eBay / Bow & arrow scaffold bar earrings: New Look / Silver bangles: New Look

When my friend Amy from Scariel's Grotto first asked me to do this Disneybound post I immediately thought of Mulan. It's one of my favourite Disney films (together with Big Hero 6 and Zootropolis) so I was really excited to do this. I began to flick through some of the clothes Mulan wore before settling on her armour (I hated the colours in her dresses) and started gathering some ideas.

I then began to think... What would Mulan be like if she was gyaru? She definitely wouldn't be the himekaji type (no way can I image her in cute floral dresses), nor something like agejo or tsuyome. It finally clicked when I was looking through some pictures of onee gyaru and came across some old pictures of Sayoko Ozaki. Mulan would look awesome with onee gyaru makeup, although her badass character would definitely make her more ane gyaru. I then had a look at clothes in Western stores to make an outfit that's easy to buy, as well as some pictures of onee/ane gyaru outfits and makeup.

My Go-To Jfashion Stores Outside of Japan

jfashion stores, japan, japanese fashion

Buying Jfashion items outside of Japan was such a nightmare for me when I first started getting into gyaru. I remember longing for a beautiful Liz Lisa dress only to learn that I couldn't buy it directly from their website and that I needed some sort of shopping service, and at the time it went straight over my head.

Nowadays it's all too easy for me to buy Jfashion goodies - hence why I'm forever broke - but I still get a lot of questions from those wanting to get into it on where I get my clothes/accessories/stationery from. Below I have compiled a list of my absolute favourites who I've had really good experience with, just to give you a bit of a helping hand! I've labelled what kind of fashion they'd suit as well as not all of them are just gyaru-focused.

Todai-ji Temple and Butt-Biting Deer in Nara

Todai-Ji Temple

While I did not enjoy getting my butt bit by a deer, it was an experience going to Nara. It was quite far from where we were staying in Kyoto so we made the decision to just visit the Todai-ji Temple and boy did we make a good choice. I had no idea just how harmoniously people could interact with nature, and it was amazing! Kudos to Japan for doing this, as it's not the kind of thing I've ever seen in the U.K. especially when all of the deer were wild...

We started our journey on an extremely slow train where we were surrounded by a boisterous tourist group who could not stop talking. I was so thankful when we finally arrived in Nara, and we instantly hopped onto a bus to take us all the way to the top of the hill to Todai-ji Temple. It was amazing how everything had an English translation - I felt a bit guilty of that I only knew a handful of Japanese phrases that I learnt from anime - so if you don't know a word of Japanese, you'll be fine. We could tell we were in the right place as the number of deer got larger when we went further up, so we hopped off the bus and began our walk to the Todai-ji Temple.

Hyper Japan Summer 2017

UK gaijin gyaru

So, Hyper Japan was amazing as per (even if the venue was a total maze). I got to see all of my friends, spend money that I should be saving, and took part in the fashion show... I couldn't have asked for more! It took me ages to go to sleep the night before because I was so excited to see everyone.

I wore one of my newest MA*RS dresses that I had worn in a previous outfit post, and did my curls overnight because ain't nobody got time to deal with that in the morning. It was a good thing I did as I was all over the place in the morning and left without a pair of flats. I shrugged it off because I wouldn't be doing much walking, right?

Blippo Surprise Kawaii Bag and Giveaway

Blippo surprise kawaii bag

Isn't life so much better when you receive cute things? That's how I felt when 'Blippo Surprise Kawaii Bag'* turned up on my doorstep, and I just couldn't wait to show you all what I got. Unlike their Kawaii Box, this bag doesn't involve any subscribing which is great for people like me who don't really want regular boxes, but who loves treating themselves to kawaii goodies every now and then. Blippo has also been very lovely and has given me another bag to give away, so please scroll down to the bottom of this post to enter!

In the meantime, let's have a look at what was in my lucky pack (also known as fukubukuro in Japan)...

Appreciate the Small Things in Life

ane agejo rose outfit

Life can be so unpredictable. When you think you've finally found your way and start to feel comfortable, someone pulls out a wobbly jenga piece and it all starts crashing down back to square one. I continuously work myself to exhaustion to try and keep on top of it all until one day I find myself lying in bed staring blankly at the ceiling.

It wasn't until a couple of weeks ago that I started to reflect my point of existence and I began to open my eyes to the present world around me. In the process of pointless overworking I neglected self care and even more troublesome, I stopped talking to my friends. It was a huge slap of realisation in the face and I hurriedly picked myself up. I thus discovered the reason why it's so important to stop and smell the roses - to appreciate the small things in life.

Creating Memories with Printiki

printiki, polaroid print, lizzie bee, review

You'd think that after two years of moving house that I would have some wall art, but noooope. I just never had the time to and instead just shared photos on Instagram. But I really miss printing out photos like my parents did back in the day, so when Printiki* sent over a message asking if I'd like to print out some photos with them I was like, "HELL YES". It actually took me longer to pick my photos than it did to process my whole order, and within a few days my package arrived neatly on my doorstep.

Roaming the Fushimi Inari-Taisha

fushimi inari taisha torii gates walk

The Fushimi Inari-Taisha was everything I wanted it to be and more. It was absolutely beautiful, and as soon as I crossed over into its territory I wanted to run up the mountain and through the thousands of torii gates. I stopped in my tracks when my eyes slapped onto a sign for kimono rentals and within the hour I was wearing a light blue set with cranes flying across it and a flower in my done-up hair. It took a while to get used to wearing the wooden sandals but soon I was walking like a pro and followed the crowd through the food stalls and to the entrance of the grand shrine.

That's what it really was - a grand shrine. It was huge and there were several other "buildings" that formed it. People lined up to cleanse their mouths and hands in the purification fountain and others lined up to pay their respects to the gods. There were also queues to buy lucky charms and the like and some could write their wishes onto a small piece of paper before tying it along with the others on the thread. I did what every other tourist did and observed, although I joined them in paying my respects and rining the bell before starting the walk through the thousand torii gates.

Summertime Dreaming

summertime dreaming, kawaii gyaru shop review

I got this Liz Lisa dress from Kawaii Gyaru Shop* late last year as a little 'welcome' gift to when summer finally comes around. I waited for what seemed like ages, and the weather slowly began to pick up but it still wasn't warm enough until finally we hit the end of May and it was time to wear it. It was Sod's Law that I began to notice things that I would've changed in this outfit; like the fact I had a hair bobble on my wrist instead of pearl bracelets, and that this outfit would probably look super cute with a boat hat and with my hair in plaits instead of waves. I think it's generally the life of a fashion blogger to notice these things, but at least I'll be more prepared when I wear this again in future!

What can I say? I absolutely adore this dress. The lace trim, the puffed sleeves... I feel so dainty and princess-like, and I couldn't help but do lots of little twirls in it! It has plenty of layers for when it gets a little cooler at nighttime... Would you believe these photos were taken at 8.30pm?

Gyaru on Holiday - Travel Tips!

gyaru on holiday, gaijin gyaru guide

It's that time of year when we're jetting off around the globe, and enjoying the (hopefully) sunny destinations. There are so many places that I want to tick off my travel wishlist and after coming back from Japan just makes me want to go again! Yes, that's right - Lizzie finally went to Japan (after 10000000x years of saving up lol).

I aim to go on at least one holiday a year so you could say that I have experience with travelling, and being gyaru on holiday is a bit more challenging. I mean, we have to think about all of the awesome outfit ideas and the accessories to go with it, as well as figure out which styles of gyaru to pack! My suitcase before I got into the style was definitely lighter, but I've been getting a lot better lately.

Below is my list of holiday tips for the travelling gyaru to get you prepared for your summer holiday. Hope it helps!

Introducing... UK Gyaru Circle, QueenE!

QueenE gyarusa, uk gyaru
QueenE gyarusa! Pic taken by Rachel

I have some really exciting news to tell you... Amber and I have created a gyaru circle! I mentioned in one of my previous posts that one of the things I missed the most about gyaru was being in a circle and getting that sense of belonging, and my wish was granted. We decided to call it QueenE (initially we were going to be called Queenie) in honour of our dear Queen Elizabeth! I'm so excited to see how it goes, and so far we've decided that we'll host meets once a month in all areas of the UK.

Our first meet as a circle was hosted in London, and luckily all of our members were there (Amber, Kei, Rachel, Laura and I) and there were some other gyaru there that I hadn't seen in a long time, as well as some newbies! Everyone looked so good. We dined on some delicious Korean food, shopped at Japan Centre, before heading to Namco arcade to play some games and bowling.

I Left My Heart in Tokyo: Gyaru Life in Shibuya!

shibuya 109, gyaru, japan

I remember the excitement building as I stood grasping onto the train handles, counting down the stops on the Yamanote line to Shibuya. I have been waiting for this moment ever since I found out about gyaru - it is the birthplace of gyaru after all, and I couldn't wait to be walking along Shibuya crossing in front of my beloved Shibuya 109. After we stepped off at Shibuya station I whizzed straight to see Hachiko, the world's most loyal dog! The story about how he waited for his master years after his death at Shibuya station is one of my favourites, and struck several heartstrings when I finally saw the statue in person.

And then it was time to join the crowd of people at Shibuya crossing to walk towards the beacon of all things gyaru - Shibuya 109. And I was extremely disappointed.

Mini Life Update

gaijin gyaru, lifestyle blogger, mini life update

Hello, hey, hi. It's been a while since I've been able to have a proper sit down chat with you so I thought it was time we did this before I get into doing more of my posts on Japan (how exciting). Right now I'm nursing an awful cough that was actually caused by my hayfever but I'm trying to get my thoughts together for this post.

The past couple of months has been... Hectic, to say the least. I've got so many new obstacles thrown in my way and I find myself tripping up most of the time, but I'm slowly getting back on my feet. Every time I accomplish something, more problems crop up, but I'm doing my best! I'm still battling all of the things that I said I would no longer care about, and it won't be a quick turnaround, but I'll get there.

Because I know that I'm a rambler, I'm going to separate everything into sections for you peeps to skim through if necessary.

Chasing Cherry Blossoms

cherry blossoms, gaijin gyaru, agejo

Cherry blossoms are my favourite flower; there's just something so beautiful about their ephemeral state and it was the thing I was looking forward to the most during our stay in Japan. You could imagine my dismay when we arrived and it was too cold for them to bloom... It wasn't until our very last few days here that they started to blossom, and so we went to the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace and it seemed like we weren't the only ones, however, and soon all of the spots surrounding the trees were taken.

Luckily I learnt from the last time I took outfit photos outdoors that I didn't have a lot of time, so again we adopted the mindset that we'd take no more than ten photos and then that was it. I put on my newest ma*rs dress on (which I'm in love with, by the way) and couldn't have picked a better day for it. It was lovely and sunny, and so worth getting hayfever over.

My Japan Haul - DaTuRa, MA*RS, Sanrio and Many More

Shibuya 109 MA*RS shop staff, japan haul, gyaru

I've been to Japan and haven't bought a thing... Said no one ever! And trust me, I am still on the road to financial recovery despite it being over a month since I've been in the magical land of Hello Kitty and matcha KitKat. It was so worth it, though, and I had been saving for this moment for a long time...

When I look back at the things I bought I kind of wish I had bought more, but it was physically impossible to fit any more into my suitcase. My suitcase weighed 17kg before and then 23kg after. Oops. I've made the decision, however, to buy more things over from Japan. It might not be good economically but their clothes are just so much nicer and I want to keep supporting my gyaru brands from afar!

In the meantime, though, let's delve into my Japan haul a.k.a the part where I sold my soul.

What I Miss About Gyaru

what I miss about gyaru, gyaru circle, jewel gal unit
Throwback to JEWEL's first gyaru meet!
To say that gyaru has changed in the last few years is an understatement; nowadays it's totally unrecognisable, but hints of the old scene still lurks within the makeup. I've been watching this all happen and I used to get so riled up about how it isn't what it once was but now I've learnt that it'll never be like that again, and what we've got to do is just adapt with the times and see how it goes.

There are still a few things that I miss, though, and at the last gyaru meet Amber and I were chatting about everything that we missed about it. Thus I've compiled a little list of the top five things that I miss!

Chilling with Hello Kitty - My Trip to Sanrio Puroland!

puroland, sanrio, puro village

I first fell in love with Hello Kitty when I was around 8 years old, sporting a little red and white t-shirt with her face emblazoned against it. But like all things do, I grew out of love with it, until it reappeared in my late teens and has stuck around ever since.

But to go to her world? That was a dream that soon became reality when I found myself walking down the pathway to Puroland, the home of all of the Sanrio characters that you could ever think of. We followed all of the incredibly obvious signs on where to go (e.g. the Hello Kitty banners, Sanrio town map, Pompompurin signs at the train station... You couldn't really miss it) and after taking the typical snap of me looking like an excitable puppy in front of Puroland, we went in. Cinnamoroll was the star of the show as it was his 15th anniversary and everything was so on point - from the staff to the benches to the decor in general.

Searching for the Perfect Photo

quest for the perfect photo

This was the first time that I took outfit photos outside the comfort of my home, and I learnt three very important things: one, that I was so awkward when it came to posing; two, that I get terribly nervous when taking outfit shots outdoors; and three, that white shoes will never look clean after some walking. I couldn't help but feel that everyone was staring at me and thinking that I was being that ditsy chick just trying to get a picture in front of some cherry blossoms like a typical tourist (I was in Japan, after all) so this time I just asked my other half to take ten photos in total before settling down on the grass to enjoy the sight of cherry blossoms before I got too flustered.

The thing was these were actually pretty good

Somehow taking less than ten photos and having a time limit actually meant that I had a good selection of photos. In my previous outfit posts I probably took around 20 - 50 and most were awful, but here I didn't have time to mess around so I just rushed it. And hey, I actually smiled! I never do that, but wow I should really do that again.

Could this be it? Have I found the solution in my search for taking the perfect photo?

My Blogging Highlights

Can you believe that this time six years ago I was a budding blogger who couldn't wait to get their thoughts down on paper? I've come a long way since then and even though I cringe slightly when I looked back at old posts, I haven't the heart to delete them as they're a reminder of why I started. Sure my photos were badly taken on an even worse camera phone, but who cares?

I was starting to get really emotional about this blog; despite my ups and downs I am really, really happy that I decided to blog. If it wasn't for blogging I wouldn't have met so many amazing people and wouldn't have a clue about SEO (I still don't really have a clue about it) and it's just such a good way to get all of my chaotic thoughts out of my head. I feel so much lighter if I write everything down!

So I decided to compile all of my blogging highlights, whether it's to do with my blog or what my blog lead me to do if that makes sense (it probably doesn't). I've done my best to do this in time order, but some things might've gotten messed up!

Easy Gyaru Hair & Makeup Tutorials Part Two

easy gyaru makeup tutorial, gyaru, gyaru blog

Despite everything, I still hold onto the hope that maybe, just maybe, my skin would magically recover and I can be that dream everyday gyaru that I wanted to be. It's a really fragile hope, but the other day I was going back through my archives and rediscovered my post on Easy Gyaru Makeup & Hair Tutorials. Lots of links were missing so I had to update it, and this made me think - why not create another post? A part 2?

And that's exactly what I am doing! So below you'll find some more of my long-forgotten collection, and hopefully this will give you ideas on easy makeup and hair tutorials suitable for the every day life.

A Day in the Life of a Gyaru

gyaru, gaijin gyaru

I might have said this a million times on my blog already, but gyaru makes up a huge part of my life. I don't do the makeup everyday (because of allergies and eczema etc) and so I treasure gyaru meets. I realise that some of you are quite new to this blog and probably don't know what I'm on about ("what the hell is gyaru, Lizzie?") so in this post I'm going to show you what a day in the life of a gyaru is from the last meet I went to.

One Item Five Ways: Boohoo Tulle Maxi Skirt

one item five ways, tulle, boohoo

I've always been a fan of maxi skirts; when I was younger I used to have this long white one that I would wear whenever possible, but then my taste changed and I haven't looked at a maxi skirt since. That is until I noticed them cropping up in Japanese fashion, and I was so tempted to get one right away but decided to wait patiently for it to appear in Western stores.

A few months down the line they arrived on the scene, and when I saw this white mesh skirt on Boohoo I knew I just had to get it, and BAM it was in my wardrobe. It's amazing how versatile this skirt can be so it wasn't that hard to come up with five different combinations for it, all of varying styles. You got your larme kei and your gyaru kei, both super easy to wear in your everyday life. It provides the perfect amount of layers for those cold days but it's also light enough for Spring. I love it!

To My Favourite Human

valentine's day, cute, love, heart balloon

I didn't think much of you when we first met; you were a pretty ordinary guy with an ordinary life, and I was actually quite sick of boys at that time because they were always the same. No matter how pretty they were they were predictable to the core (from the guys I knew of anyway) and it was a bit boring. I thus decided that I couldn't be bothered to have a guy in my life and would rather just do my own thing and be my own favourite human.

And then you came along and... Well, nothing changed. At first. anyway.

Good as Gold: Lush "Golden Wonder" Gift Box Review

Lush golden wonder gift box, bath bombs

Aah Lush, why can't I get enough of you? In all fairness I had been good and have avoided buying Lush for a few months now, but then I received this beauty "Golden Wonder" as a Christmas present and it makes me want to buy more! Inside were two bath bombs, one called Golden Wonder and the other Star Dust. It made me feel heavenly just looking at the label.

There wasn't really much of a description for the Golden Wonder bath bomb, but the Star Dust is a "soothing vanilla mixed with fragrant rosewood". I had very high expectations for both of them - especially the Golden Wonder - and I accidentally managed to get some gold glitter on my camera, oops.

Gyaru Nail Art Inspiration for Valentine's Day

gyaru nails, valentines day nails, inspiration

Hands up if you have no idea what to wear for Valentine's Day? Yep, me neither, but lately I've gone back to drooling over endless Instagram feeds of Japanese nail salons and it makes me really want to make mine pretty for the special day (even though I have no idea what to wear). Nails made me feel so complete - especially when it came to gyaru - and since I've been so out of touch with it lately I think a set of beautiful, sparkly nails would do the trick! I wish I could just waltz into a salon to get my nails done every week but alas that's not going to happen.

What I can do, however, is create inspirational mood boards of Valentine's Day gyaru nails. I love creating mood boards and it's been a while since I've done one so I was eager to do this again. Hopefully it'll also provide you with that Valentine's inspiration even if you're spending the day at home pampering yourself like the queen you are.

Nobody Cares

nobody cares, killstar, rokku gyaru

Once again I'm caught in the middle of a style crisis; on some days I want to be all pink and fluffy, and on others I want to be dark and witchy (so in gyaru terms it's agejo/himekaji vs rokku gyaru). If I could ever win an award it would be for having the most indecisive and inconsistent style, a gyaru chameleon. Normally I would just go with the flow and jump at the opportunity to try new things but one day I got so sick of it that I behaved like a stroppy child and just sat with my arms crossed trying to figure out what to wear.

And then I did the thing. Y'know, the part where I would ask people's advice hoping that they would say something that would make me feel better.

Thing was that they liked both which was kind of frustrating yet deeply satisfying. That's when I realised that I probably shouldn't have done that because no one actually cares about silly things like what I should be wearing today, and to be honest, I shouldn't either, but here I am still asking for people's opinions. It doesn't just happen in terms of fashion but in life too - I'm too busy caring about what everyone else thinks that I dismiss my own judgement.

Ravenclaw Rebel at the House of MinaLima

hogwarts letters, house of minalima

Yup, I dressed up as a Ravenclaw again, but could you really blame me for doing so on the day that my friends and I went on a trip to the House of MinaLima? Where they've filled in every nook and cranny of a super old house with everything graphic design and Harry Potter? It's crazy to think that even a simple video shot of Harry's trunk had to be well thought of, from the designs of his school books to his house crest. Kudos to Miraphora (Mina) and Eduardo (Lima) for designing these - they are as magical as the world they designed.

I was in heaven; I'm a big lover of both graphic design and Harry Potter and it was so cool to pick out the little things such as the differences between newspaper clippings from The Daily Prophet and The New York Ghost. I was with one of my other design friends and together we scaled the whole house, sometimes exclaiming "look at this gold foiling!" or "look at how they used negative space!" And yep I definitely bought a print of the Ravenclaw crest from there... How could you leave without one? I wish I bought some of their postcards now to serve as mini prints but alas, I didn't want to splurge too much in one go.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes! Introducing Hello Lizzie Bee

lizzie bee, gyaru, blogger, gyaru blog, jfashion

Lately I have been feeling like this blog came to a standstill; I have been blogging for so long but it feels as if I'm still new to the scene. It was only a year ago that I found out about blogging communities on Twitter and realised how crazy cool everyone was, and how competitive blogging is. Everyone wants to be noticed but why read a blog when you could simply "like" or "share" a photo? Social media has killed the blogging star.

Yet despite all that the community still thrives and has its own little world, and that world is amazing. I get hit by this feeling that I'm not good enough, and worse still, that I'm all alone even when surrounded by people. All of my friends that I knew back when gyaru blogging was at its prime have left because of real life getting in the way.

So why can't I just move on?

New Year Who Dis? 2017 To-Do List!

rokku gyaru 2017

The year ended as it began; with my friends and family, because no matter how good or bad the year was, as long as I've got them then nothing else matters. It will end and begin on a high, what more could I ask for?
2016 was... Interesting, to say the least, but that's so last year (haha) and now it's time to focus on 2017! I have to admit that I did not stick to my last year's resolutions at all. And you know what? I don't think I'm going to stick to them this year either. Making resolutions sucks because you get this false sense of hope that you'll be a better person but you end up just staying the same. Oops.

Instead I've made a to-do list for 2017 because I just love ticking things off, especially when it's things that are super easy to do which makes me feel like I've achieved something. The first thing on my list was to enter the year looking as glamorous as can be, and what better than to dress up like a gothic princess-in-training? I've fallen in love with my dark side and couldn't wait to find the chance to wear this gorgeous velvet dress I picked up from Quiz.
