Yes, your girl Lizzie here went to her first ever blogger event. It’s not like it’s taken me over 7 years since I’ve started to do blogging, but let’s not think about that. I finally managed to tick off one of my main blogging goals and I’m so happy about it!
How did it happen? Well, I saw that the lovely Ting posted that there was going to be a sort of small blogging event at Accessorize in the Bullring, Birmingham, and that they were looking for a few fashion bloggers to come along. I thought, well what the heck, and applied right away.
A few weeks later I found myself nervously stuffing my face with a beef burger from Burger King, patiently waiting for the time to brush myself up and go to Accessorize. I kept checking my messages to see if anyone else had turned up, so there were a few awkward moments where I was eyeing up other people to figure out if they were bloggers or not. Luckily I got the blogger-vibe from Chloe who looked equally as lost as I did, but before long we were gathered into the centre of the store to start our blogging event.
And I had the best time ever! There was a bit of drinking, a bit of mingling, and a social event or two where we would have to pick out our favourite items and take flatlays of them all before uploading them to Twitter. I got to know other Birmingham Bloggers which was quite fun, including Taylor, and all of my nervous-ness soon faded away. While I was walking back in the cold I just kept thinking that I should’ve done something like this long ago, and I will definitely do it again!
So what did I learn from all of this?

What I’ve learnt from my first blogger event
You can never be too prepared
I was not prepared at all. Well, I guess that isn’t completely true because I knew where to park and where to go, but I didn’t have a clue on how to use my new camera. Oops. So next time I decide to go to a blogging event, I want to know my camera back to front!
There’s always a helping hand
Followed on from my previous point, it wasn’t long before I had a helping hand with my camera. Chloe quickly jumped in and soon enough I managed to connect my phone to my camera and take part in the social challenges. She also helped me out when taking the photos because my hands were super shaky and I couldn’t get the focus right.
Blogging isn’t just a hobby for everyone
The other bloggers at the event took this seriously, and for some it was a full-time job (or at least something that they had on the side). But this didn’t at all make me feel out of place – instead, it was inspiring! It solidified the idea that this blogging thing I have going will always be something I love to do for fun, nothing more, and I’m okay with that.
When you go once, you’d want to go again
I’m already looking out for more blogging events that I can go to, and planning on meeting up some of the bloggers that I met at the Accessorize one. I’m just so excited about blogging again!
Have you ever been to a blogging event? What was it like for you?
Big shoutout to Ting and to the Accessorize Bullring team for inviting me along!
