6 Months On – Wedding FAQ

wedding photo collection from Printiki

Gosh, 6 months already. How and when did that happen? It seemed like only yesterday that I was walking (well, more like marching) down the aisle and became a wife that I can hardly believe I am writing this right now. So much has happened since then… So I’ve decided to put together a list of frequently asked wedding questions that you sent to me over on instagram and have answered them below. Enjoy!

How did you budget for it/how long did it take for you to save?

We were engaged for nearly two years before we tied the knot, and everything we saved during that time went towards the wedding. Our parents helped out a little bit in securing the venue, but the rest was all down to us. Luckily we got married at a place that offered wedding packages which helped out a lot in terms of costs, and we went to a couple of wedding fairs to get discounts off other things (like the photobooth we had in the evening).

What was your reaction when he asked for your hand?

HOLY SHIT DID YOU ASK MY MUM?! Yep, that’s exactly what I blurted out as soon as he asked me to marry him. My mind had gone completely numb with shock as I watched him twirl around and get down on one knee. I knew that I always wanted to marry him, and we talked about marriage before, but I had pushed it out of my mind as I thought we were probably too young. But you’re never too young to know who you want to spend the rest of your life with <3

Was keeping to a budget stressful?

It wasn’t as stressful as I thought, to tell you the truth! The process went a lot smoother after securing and paying the deposit for our venue, and having a Pinterest board of exactly everything I wanted helped me narrow down my search so I didn’t do a lot of mindless spending. Some of my friends offered their services to me as wedding gifts (my friend Amy provided the wedding decorations, S’s cousin made our wedding cake, and S’s grandad contributed towards getting our hair done) which helped out a lot.

Where did you get your photo album from?

Instead of creating a photo album, we decided to get some photos done with Printiki* so that we could regularly swap out our photo frames. As always, the photos came out perfectly. I’ve been tempted by the whole scrapbook idea and to fill the last few pages of our guestbook with these, so all of our good memories are in one place.

What was your biggest fear in preparing the wedding ceremony?

That people would bring plus-ones without telling us. We tried out best to hint it in the politest possible way that we only invited the people who’s name were written on the invitations, but I was still struck with worry that someone would bring along a stranger to our intimate ceremony. Other than that, I was so worried I’ll trip up when walking down the aisle!

Where did you go for your honeymoon?

We decided that instead of having a two week honeymoon right after the wedding, we’d spend one week in Marrakesh/Morocco, and then a long weekend in Amsterdam. If I could give any advice to people it’s to do this because it gives you two holidays to look forward to (especially if you plan them quite far apart from each other).

How many fittings did it take for you to find the perfect dress? How did you decide on it and why was it, “the one”?

I only went into one store because I had quite a tight budget (and didn’t want to spend over £1k just for a dress). I knew what I was looking for; something simple yet elegant with a fishtail, but as soon as I tried on my fourth dress I knew it was The One. It was the total opposite of what I was looking for but I felt as if I had transformed into a princess, and you should’ve heard the gasps from my mum and my two bridesmaids. I tried some more after that to see if any others made me feel like royalty, but then I went back to that one. I think I tried on about 11 dresses in total!

That’s all for now, cuties! Were there any more questions you’d like to ask us?
