Tucking into the Vegan Menu at Cosy Club [ad]

We were sitting at the Cosy Club* in Coventry, and I realised that I had been staring at a painting for at least a minute before I slipped out of my daydream. It was our second time being invited to try out a new menu, the first being at Christmas, and this time we were trying out their new vegan menu in celebration of Veganuary. I had just devoured my starter – ciabatta that I dipped heavily into olive oil and vinegar – and I was ready for my Vegan BLT. It sounded quite promising and I was looking forward to not having to pick off the fat from meat (yep, I am a huge nightmare when it comes to eating meat). I was in such a deep conversation with my hubby that I didn’t notice the waitress arrive with our platters of food, and my brain froze as she laid out the food in front of me.

Oh, Lizzie, you ordered a sandwich. You absolute tw*t.

The Mains

I waited until the waitress was out of sight before I let all hell break loose in my brain. How could I have forgotten that a BLT was a sandwich?! I am not sandwiches’ biggest fan and for a few moments I didn’t know what to do. My hubby was already tucking into his Thai green curry, blissfully unaware, so I started to inwardly list the positive things about this: firstly, I didn’t have to worry about picking off all of the fat; secondly, it was a massive portion and I was very hungry; and thirdly, it looked pretty yummy. So I swallowed my pride with a mouthful of toasted bread.

And you know what? It wasn’t so bad after all.

I had another mouthful, and another, before I decided that, as sandwiches go, this was pretty good. I gave a bit to my hubby and he inhaled it in a hot second before I could even say another word. He agreed with me that it was nice (which is saying something for an avid meat lover) but felt that it needed a bit more flavour. His Thai green curry, on the other hand, was amazing. I had one of those moments where it was quite spicy for me but I didn’t care, I just wanted to carry on eating, and if it wasn’t for him batting my hand away I would’ve eaten the rest of his food.

The Dessert

The dessert in the form of a chocolate + orange torte, with a swirl of raspberry sauce next to it. My mouth fell open as I eyed up the thick, smooth chocolate. Despite this, the dessert wasn’t at all heavy nor too chocolately! In fact – I actually preferred this vegan version much more than I do normal chocolate pudding!

My final thoughts…

What I love about the vegan menu at Cosy Club was that there was quite a lot of choice for the mains, and I really hope that this will be added to their existing menu especially now that people are more mindful of what they eat. The Vegan BLT wasn’t my thing but my hubby liked it, and I really enjoyed his Thai Green Vegetable Curry. The Chocolate + Orange Torte was lush but I really wished that there were more dessert options!

As always (and I can happily say this as we regularly go to Cosy Club) the service in Cosy Club Coventry was spectacular and shoutout to the lovely deputy manager who came over to chat with us!

Have you done Veganuary this year? What were your thoughts?

After this experience I really want to try more vegan food so that I can get used to the flavours! It really is such a nice change though for not having to be so picky about my meat. Tehe yeah I had a complete duh moment and felt kind of embarrassed to admit it. Thanks so much Chloe! <3

It was pretty tasty in the end, and makes me want to try out more vegan food in future! xx

I’m so jealous when I read posts like this, we literally had to eat at Pizza Express last night because it was the only place anywhere near us with vegan options. This all looks amazing!! Glad you liked it despite it being a sandwich. Your dessert looks incredible x

    • January 20, 2019 / 9:22 am

Oh no, that’s such a shame! I really hope there will be more restaurants nearby that offer vegan options, especially because people are becoming more mindful of what they eat. Thank you so so much! The dessert was lush! x

The food looks really good! But I’m so glad I’m not the only person that’s not madly keen on sandwiches. I avoid them as much as possible 😂

    • January 20, 2019 / 9:40 am

Oh my gosh finally!!! Another person who doesn’t like sandwiches that much!!! My hubby thinks it’s weird that I don’t like them but I find that after a few bites I get bored and want to eat something else (which is why I love tapas). But this Vegan sandwich was a lot better than any other sandwiches I’ve tried in the past! <3

Not gonna lie, the Cosy Club often leaves me feeling meh. But the food here looks amazing! That torte caused a lot of drool! If you can, check out https://thelounges.co.uk/menus – they’re part of the Cosy Club family and have a real good selection and at reasonable prices

    • January 20, 2019 / 9:39 am

Oh man, that’s such a shame! and I’ll definitely check them out – thank you so much for the recommendation!

I’ve subscribed to your posts. I am planning on do Vegan February (we already only eat meats twice a week as part of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” which is very important to our family but free range eggs and scenic rim 4real milk are very hard for my three boys to give up).

    • January 20, 2019 / 12:38 pm

Awh thank you so much, Marrissa! Vegan February sounds like a brilliant idea, and I love the fact you’ve already started your path with your ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ method! I hope it all goes well!

Oh looks yummy but agree the Thai green curry looks nicer! I’m weird with sandwiches too, if it’s on normal bread it must be toasted as I’m scared it will be mushy otherwise! Haha! Looks like some great vegan options though! Might have to check this place out when I’m next in the Cotswolds

    • January 20, 2019 / 3:06 pm

Yes I was so glad that mine was toasted bread because I feel the same about normal bread!

  7. January 20, 2019 / 3:35 pm

It all looks and sounds so yummy! I always have a look at the veggie options on the menu but rarely the vegan options. Next time I visit the Cosy Club I will be checking these out, although think I would be more inclined to go for the Thai curry than the sandwich. (Nothing against a good sandwich, but sometimes you just want a bit more don’t you?)
    Lovely post 🙂

Haha yes I totally get you! I’m definitely going to start having veggie/vegan options more when I go out so that I can try new things and get used to the lack of meat!

  8. January 20, 2019 / 3:40 pm

I’ve never tried a vegan BLT before (I never even knew such a thing existed!) but after seeing your photos I am really tempted. It looked delicious! The dessert looked amazing too! Thanks for sharing Lizzie, I’ve not heard of The Cosy Club before so thank you for the recommendation! <3 xx

Haha aww bless your cotton socks, I’ve been in very similar situations! Sometimes ordering something we don’t want by accident ends up being a pleasant surprise, doesn’t it? I confess that your husband’s green curry sounds divine, though!

    • January 26, 2019 / 8:07 am

Yes exactly! So it was okay in the end. It was absolutely delicious!

  10. January 21, 2019 / 1:43 pm

I really enjoyed the cosy club vegan food and we tried the fake bacon in the BLT it was actually really nice! I’m glad you enjoyed it lovely

    • January 26, 2019 / 8:07 am

Yes I really liked it, too! It makes me want to start trying Quorn foods but I’d have no idea how best to cook it. Thanks so much!

    • January 26, 2019 / 8:06 am

Awh thanks very much! And good luck 😀

  11. January 23, 2019 / 8:17 pm

Firstly their dessert looks amazing, anything with Chocolate and orange incit is a win for me! Also I that Blt does look really yummy! Even though I’m not a vegan I would definitely give that a go! Great post x

    • January 26, 2019 / 8:06 am

Thank you so much! I’m just so glad that I LOVE dark chocolate so that dessert was right up my street

  12. January 23, 2019 / 8:32 pm

Oh my God what a pickle! I mean, I probably wouldn’t have chosen a BLT either BUT it does look amazing and I’m glad you enjoyed it! I probably would have gone for what your boyfriend had, I had an AMAZING Vegan Thai Green Curry at the Yoga retreat I went too and you’d have had no idea it was Vegan. Great post and you look beautiful, as always! <3

    • January 26, 2019 / 8:05 am

Yessss I kind of want to go back just to try out their other vegan dishes!

  13. January 24, 2019 / 8:15 am

I’m vegetarian & I think it’s awesome when restaurants add a vegetarian/vegan menu! The food looks delicious especially the dessert! 😄

    • January 26, 2019 / 8:05 am

I’m so happy that there’s more of a variety for you now! Plus it can also encourage meat-eaters to give it a try, especially as it’s gaining more traction this year 😀

  14. January 24, 2019 / 8:32 am

Sounds like a good sandwich but the curry would be better x

  15. January 26, 2019 / 12:13 pm

I’ve been to the cosy club before and it is always pretty fab and it always looks so cool in there! The BLT does look quite good, at least you liked it a little bit, I think I’d go for that curry too, I love them!
