Lockdown Looks

Kind of weird but… I have been dressing up a lot more since lockdown happened. I guess it’s mainly because I’m just sitting around in the house with nothing better to do, and that the weather can’t really dictate what to wear because, erm, I’m not going outside. So I could pretty much wear whatever I wanted without limitations! Here are some of my favourite lockdown looks.

8 Things I’m Going to Do Once Lockdown is Over

Lockdown is all fun and games until you’re about a month in and there’s nothing left to watch on Netflix and no new TikTok dances to fail at. I’ve taken this time to read books and taking a time-out from the world, but I’ve been missing seeing my friends and family terribly. So to get me through this lockdown lull, I’ve compiled a list of 8 things that I’m going to do as soon as it all blows over!

Offbrand Himekaji: Pink Blossoms and Floral Skirts

It’s been three years since we went to Japan and yet I’m still pining for their cherry blossoms. I’ve been searching for them in the UK ever since and had planned on going to Birmingham to see if they had any like they do in Japan but, alas, lock down happened so I’m kind of stuck. But during our little walk we spotted this beautiful tree and I couldn’t help myself. Most of its petals were already scattered on the ground so I think we took these photos just in time! I wore a cute himekaji outfit, but the best part of it was that it was all offbrand.

Growin’ and Glowin’

You know you’re a blogger during lockdown when you’re blogging about things that happened in February. Yep, these outfit photos were taken at the Grow & Glow Event – where I met my blogger pal Tanya for the very first time, and also my idol Vix Meldrew! The event was MIND-BLOWING, but in the run up to it I was super nervous. So I whacked on my favourite outfit – this super cute pastel hoodie and my trusty zebra print skirt – put on my brave face, and marched right in.

Today I tried… Kogal!

Hey cutie! Today I tried out Kogal – high-school Gyaru – for my TikTok video collaboration with my friend Kelsey. I had so much fun wearing it and it reminded me of when I first tried it all of those many years ago at MCM Comic Con. Luckily this set up still fits me but I sadly couldn’t find the sweater to go with it… Which makes me want to try it again and update this blog post!

How to Style a Denim Skirt in 6 Ways

Is that… The sun?! I’m so happy that it’s finally sunny and (slightly) warm over here, so today I wanted to show you how to style this denim skirt that I bought from boohoo in 6 different ways as I believe that it’s a staple for any spring/summer wardrobe, regardless of your gyaru style!

How to Style a Leopard Print Jumper in 4 Ways

I’ve been obsessed with this leopard print jumper from boohoo as soon as I clapped my eyes on it. Call it fate, destiny, whatever… I knew I had to have this in my life and seconds later it was in my shopping basket. But, like I do with all of my new purchases, I wanted to figure out different ways to wear it so I posted a bunch of photos and asked a video questions over on my instagram, and have managed to come up with four different outfits! So here’s how to style this leopard print jumper in four different ways…

How to Style a Checkered Dress in 5 Ways

I have to admit, I wasn’t a huge fan of checkered dresses. For some reason I thought that they were only reserved for school uniforms but you know that saying that “it’ll feel so right when you’ve found The One”? Well, I found mine hanging on a clothes rail in New Look and I haven’t looked back since. And seeing Cher from Clueless rocking a checkered suit cemented my love for this print! Here’s how to style a checkered dress in 5 different ways!

Goals I'm Going to Smash in 2020

2020 – bring it on. 2019 was rough but it made me a (hopefully) tougher person, and I’m ready to smash my goals and be more aligned with my dream self. I know it’s a cliche to say “new year, new me” but it’s a cliche for a damn good reason – because there’s nothing fresher than a fresh new year. And yes, I might be a *little* late in posting these seeing as we’re always halfway through January, but it’s still January so that counts, right? Anyway, here are my goals for 2020!

Gyaru Outfit Diaries: A Winter Holiday in Germany

I never stressed so much as I did in the weeks prior to going on holiday to Bavaria, Germany. “How do I even create a cute winter outfit? Am I going to be warm enough?? What if I forgot something???” were frequent questions floating around my head. Luckily I had gathered some photos for inspiration, then it was just a case of buying all of the essentials and making sure that my outfits were both cosy and cute (not to mention warm enough for super cold temperatures!) Here are some of the outfits that I wore during my winter holiday.

Please note: to give you a general idea, the temperature was around -5 to 2 degrees Celsius. We only had one day where it reached a maximum of 5 degrees!

My Favourite Gyaru Coords of 2019

There was a theme floating around in the Lolita community (another Japanese fashion that doesn’t have any relation to *that* book) where they would post a few of their favourite outfits from the first half of 2019, and my friend Reila wanted to give it a gyaru twist and tagged me to take part! But by the time I wanted to do it, it was already August so I thought I’d wait a few more months to then do a 2019 outfit round-up. So here are a my favourite gyaru coords of 2019!

You’re in Love With the Old Me

I was at the height of my gyaru days in 2014; I finally discovered the style that suited me, agejo (which is one of the more sexier substyles) and I wore it nearly every day. I even rocked up to university in it, and got plenty of raised eyebrows from my colleagues and professors. It became my signature style and I wore it for a few years after that until I started working and had to tone it down. I then began to wear other styles like onee, rokku and himekaji that I felt more comfortable in, and rarely picked my MA*RS items out of my wardrobe.

But even now I’ve had messages from people saying that they loved my agejo style, and I cannot help but feel a hint of sadness… Because they’re in love with the older version of myself. What does that mean for my present self? Is the Lizzie right now not good enough?

Cinnamoroll-ing Down the Hill

I’ll tell you a secret… I wasn’t always a Hello Kitty Fan *gaspshockhorror*. I went through a phase where I was pretty tired of it because of just how popular Hello Kitty was and I wanted to be “original” (ew) and so I turned my attention to another super cute character – Cinnamoroll. I was still in Sixth Form/college (so high school, for my American readers!) when I fell in love with this lil’ puppy, and so wearing this Cinnamoroll inspired outfit really brought back sweet memories!

Countryside Flower in the Cotswolds

Gosh, I love himekaji. I was actually thankful that it wasn’t as sunny as it had been because then I was able to wear my new Liz Lisa jumpsuit for my birthday (which I actually bought secondhand – but still “new” in my eyes). I had no idea where my hubby was taking me but he did hint that my jumpsuit would be perfect for it, and it was! We spent the whole day in the sunshine (and some rain) strolling through the countryside and eating afternoon tea in beautiful English manors, and I felt like such a princess. I was definitely treated like one in any case!
