Today I married the one I love.
I didn’t believe it when people said that weddings were just a huge, happy blur, but ours really was. It was as if time didn’t really exist for us and everything was done at our own pace. There wasn’t any sense of urgency or rush, and we even had time to eat (something that people said we wouldn’t have time to). It was, as cheesy as it sounds, the best day of my life. And I’m getting major wedding blues already.
The Big Day
It was a blur, a huge blur, but it was the happiest day of my life. I wish I could go back and rewatch everything unravel again: how it didn’t hit me that I was actually getting married until I walked down the aisle with my mum by my side; walking back down with my newly-wedded husband to ‘Believer’ by Smash Mouth; to my father-in-law’s very unexpected impromptu speech; to our first dance to Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’; and to when my grandma ditched her walking stick so that she could join me on the dance floor. It was an absolutely amazing day, and I wouldn’t have changed a thing. Everyone I loved was there, and it was so empowering to be surrounded by their love.
We wanted somewhere that was both beautiful on the inside as well as the outside, because it was going to be Sod’s Law that it would rain on our wedding day. It very nearly did – the days before and after were absolutely miserable, so the weather gods were really smiling upon us when we were greeted by beautiful sunshine. S had actually found Ettington Park Hotel, and we couldn’t have chosen a more perfect place. Our coordinator, Ollie, was an absolute angel and was with us every step of the way.
I wanted to go with a woodland fairy tale theme, but more of the fae kind rather than Disney. It was quite hard to achieve because usually you would want somewhere outdoors if you were doing a woodland theme, but together with my friend Amy we managed to make it work. We adorned bookcases with fake ivy as well as having them trail down our candelabras, and the fairylights hanging across the room really made it look magical. Our florist, Abbie Digweed, did an incredible job by having stag antlers for the centrepiece on the top table, and this was reflected across to our wedding cake (which was done by S’s family members who did an AMAZING job).
Our Wedding Photographers
Ever since I saw their website I knew that Ryan and Sara were the photographers that we wanted for our wedding. I just love their candid style and the type of editing they did, so we immediately contacted them for a skype call. We had an engagement shoot with them before the wedding and they made us feel so at ease – which is amazing because S hates having his photo taken – and they were amazing on our big day.
Me: I want to go with something understated, elegant, and classic… You know, like a fish tail. Something to show off my curves and nothing too over-the-top.
Also me: Comes out with a massive princess dress.
Yep, I had no idea that I would actually ended up choosing a princess dress for our wedding. I got mine from Wed2B and it was fourth dress I had tried on, and even though I tried many others after it I just couldn’t stop going back to it. I tried it on at least three times before firmly deciding that it was the one, and purchased it the same day. It was the first purchase I made after we had placed a deposit on our venue.
Hair & Makeup
Myself and my bridesmaids all had our hair styled by Hair by Harriett, who did an amazing job at producing everlasting. I was astonished – my curls never last, and yet they held for the whole day. We went with a half-do for me with tight curls and a plait/braid running along the top half, together with a pretty hairpiece from KiCrown. My bridesmaids have their hair with plaits running down either side before being tied up into a bun, and they looked so beautiful!
And that’s it! That concludes my wedding day. It was honestly – and I don’t care how much I say it – the happiest day of my life. My biggest advice to you is to never stress the little things, because you don’t really notice them at the end of the day. Focus instead on mingling with your guests and dancing the night away!
Do you have a wedding coming up? Is there any advice that you could give to brides-to-be?
