Down the Rabbit Hole: Alice in Wonderland Afternoon Tea at Kona

“Cup of tea, anyone?” is perhaps one of the most stereotypically British things we say and I felt oh-so-stereotypical when I found myself on the train to London for afternoon tea with my gal pals Chewiee and Maz. It wasn’t just any afternoon tea, though, but Alice in Wonderland themed afternoon tea. How amazing is that?! This was one at Kona at the Taj hotel, and it was by far one of the best afternoon teas I’ve ever had.

One thing I would say is that when you’re going to Kona, wear a pretty dress. I felt like a right peasant when I was being led down the corridor by a well-dressed hotel butler, and even more so when they offered to take my jacket off for me. But they were so lovely that I just shrugged this feeling off – don’t you love that? When people make you feel welcome even if you felt like you were initially out of place? Soon our minds were occupied by something else though; the afternoon tea.

Imagine a tray full of cute delicious desserts and triple it, because that’s how big my eyes were when I saw all of the little bits of macarons and scones dotted on a pretty pink cake tier. I had no idea where to start! There was a great attention to detail with the Alice in Wonderland theme with a large Mad Hatter’s hat as the centrepiece and large playing cards scattered around the table. Even the desserts were designed with Wonderland in mind: I think my favourite was the little clock macaron right at the top of the tier.

I could’ve stayed there forever and we did make a very good attempt at demolishing the desserts. Only a few scones and cakes were left behind, and we had drunk all of our tea. I really want to go back again now that I’m writing this post and flicking through all of the photos Chewiee and I took (and we took a lot).

So would I recommend going to Kona for a spot of afternoon tea? Hell yes. They did a Sherlock Holmes themed afternoon tea, Christmas afternoon tea and Jasmine Indian themed tea as well!

Do you fancy a bit of afternoon tea? Whereabouts would you recommend?
One of the things I love doing is going to themed ones, and the Alice in Wonderland was just the beginning.

It is a wonderful idea. My friends and I are meeting after a long time in one of the LA venues for lunch. I can call them home for a small tea party and can arrange things beautifully like this. We all are going to meet after ages. The work, marriage and the cities separated us.
