Our Perfect Honeymoon in Marrakesh, Morocco

Our honeymoon in Marrakesh/Marrakech (Morocco) couldn’t come soon enough. It was a time where I could finally let my hair down and relax after the wedding – and man I really needed it! I was so exhausted from the wedding that I was actually a little bit ill during the first couple of days of our newly wedded life, so any excuse to just lie in the sunbed reading a book was perfect for me. But the adventurer in me did kick in after the second day, and I couldn’t wait to explore!

(1-week itinerary)

(Full) Day 1 & 2 – And, Relax!

Our first couple of days were spent relaxing in the hotel gardens, soaking up the sun rays. We learnt from our trip to Japan that we really needed to spend the first day or two just relaxing so that we weren’t hit with exhaustion, and I was finally able to read a couple of books (something that I never usually have time for!) My biggest advice to all honeymooners out there is to do the same – the wedding is such a stressful time, so you need space to chill.

I was getting a bit agitated when it hit day 2 though as I wasn’t used to just sitting with a book (and I had finished the two that I brought with me) so I managed to drag my new hubby to see the Koutoubia Mosque. We went at a good time – it wasn’t too busy and they had just started their prayers, so we were able to listen in all its glory.

Day 3 – Happy Hump Day!

This was the first of our excursions with Tui, and it was one of my favourites! I hadn’t been camel riding in so long so I was really looking forward to it, so we were both up bright and early so that we didn’t miss our ride. The Camel Riders (is that what they’re called?) donned us in their traditional attire when we arrived, and it didn’t take long for everyone to be assembled and onto their assigned camels.

Halfway through the journey we stopped off at their family home and had some delicious mint tea. I can’t quite forget that experience, as the taste was so sweet and so refreshing after riding through the dusty terrain. Everyone looked so happy, and I didn’t want to leave! On the way back one of the guys made me a cute lil’ camel out of sugarcane grass (which I’ve kept and can’t wait to frame).

Day 4 – Working on my Quads

I still don’t know how I feel about quad biking, but my arms were aching for the next day or two from clutching my hubby, desperately trying not to fall off. He absolutely loved it, and was like a little kid who has just found a new hobby that they love. It was an experience, and so nice to venture into the quieter areas of Marrakech and to feel the breeze running through your hair.

Day 5 – Exploring Marrakesh

This day was spent exploring the pretty city! Unfortunately this was the day that we forgot to pack our spare battery and our current one was running in the red, so I didn’t take as many photos as I’d like to have done (because silly me forgot her phone as well!)

I had such a good time, though. It was so good to finally explore the city we were staying in and I was quite glad we went with a group of people because I would’ve gotten so lost. We visited the Koutoubia Mosque, Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, a local Riad, the Souks and finally the Jemaa el-Fna (Marrakesh Medina).

Here’s a quick recap of each place:

Koutoubia Mosque – Non-Muslims can enter here which is fair enough as it’s a place of worship, but it’s still a lovely place to walk around.

Saadian Tombs – Oh my gosh the architecture is jaw-dropping. Huge queues to get a peek inside, but it’s well worth it.

Bahia Palace – Although it was good we went with a tourist group, I wish that we went really early in the day to Bahia Palace first because it was packed by the time we got there. I couldn’t get many pictures at all without lots of people crammed into the shot, but oh well… This is one of the main reasons why I want to go back to Marrakesh.

Local Riad – Wasn’t that exciting because we didn’t really have time to stay and sip some mint tea. It was more of a stop-off point.

The Souks – absolute maze, would definitely have gotten lost if we weren’t with a tour guide.

Jemaa el-Fna – isn’t as awe-inspiring as I read on other bloggers’ entries, but it was still nice to have a look at the stalls. I purchased a lovely tea set from here and did my fair bit of haggling for other souvenirs (something I would not have done a few years ago).

Day 6 & 7 – Absolute Agony

Was spent in the hotel because I was oh so ill. We did venture out to the Souks because we were quite rushed last time on our tour and oh my gosh we got lost. I was starting to panic because every ‘street’ looked the same but after a few hours we managed to get out. Never again.

I felt quite ill for the whole day so afterwards we just went out to nearby shops to grab some snacks before spending the rest of the day in bed. I missed out on exploring the Medina at nighttime, too – another reason to come back to Marrakesh!

Overall, I had a lovely time! Thank goodness for all inclusive hotels, because I didn’t have to worry about food nor drinks so a huge shoutout to TUI Sensimar Medina Gardens. The airport was such a nightmare but the city was lovely, which evens it out a little bit. If you love beautiful architecture then Marrakesh is definitely somewhere I would recommend, and a week stay is more than enough here (unless you were exploring other cities).

Where would you like to travel to next? Have you ever been to Morocco/Marrakesh before?

Love,
Lizzie xx

You seem to have a lovely trip (excluding the last days!lol). And you are so cute in “camel rider’s outfit”!!! <3 Marrakesh is a wonderful city, with stunning architecture, you're right! And people in Morocco are very nice. I went there when I was 17, with my parents and my hubby. I really liked Jemaa el Fna (by night, it's magical) and souks.
What will be your next trip? Me, I would like to go back to Japan (I think I left my heart there), but not very soon (too expensive oh my gosh!). Maybe Corsica island, or other paradise beaches. But I need money first! ^^
