How many times a day do you see things like “good vibes only” or “always look on the bright side of life?” I know I’m not the only one who said at least 5 times. Being positive is pretty much shoved down our throats and there’s always one inspirational post displayed on social media every day that the whole meaning of being positive is lost. Instead we find ourselves putting on a fake smile and pretending to be positive without actually feeling positive.
I’ve been there done that, and to be honest it was awful. I tried to be such a positive blogger but not being able to connect with my true feelings was self destructive.
This year I made it my goal to be a lot more open with my emotions and not to be that person who pretends everything is rainbows and unicorns. So here are my top tips on how to be positive without being fake!

Be more open with your negative feelings
I know it might sound a bit contradicting but in order to feel more naturally positive, you have to accept your negative emotions. You have them for a reason and it’s not good to lock it away and pretend everything is okay.
Find a solution to your problem
Once you accept your negativity you then need to find your solution – why am I feeling down, and how can I make myself feel better? Ranting on Twitter always helps me to blow off steam and I feel so much better for it afterwards.
Fully embrace the things you love
There’s nothing quite like seeing someone talking passionately about something they love. It’s like they’re experiencing a certain giddiness and the way their eyes light up is inspiring. Be that kind of person. Find something you love doing and embrace it with every fibre of your being and really throw yourself into it. Don’t let that spark go!
Let go of toxic friends
This is a really hard one for me but is one of the best solutions; letting go of shitty people. They’re not good for you, and you deserve better friends who actually care about you. Toxic friends are the reason why you pretend you’re okay but you’re not accepting that things aren’t and you’re putting on a fake positive front. It’s tiring!
Hakuna Matata
Yep, I had to throw a bit of Lion King in there but Hakuna your Matata (“no worries”). I have a panic moment every time something goes wrong but you can’t change things that have happened, only the way you feel about them and trust me, it works. Learn from your mistakes and move on. There’s no good in dwelling on the past. That doesn’t mean to say that panicking about your problems is a huge mistake – it really isn’t. Have your panic moment, then throw it in the past and learn from it. This kind of ties in with my previous points on being more open to your negative feelings and finding the solution to your problem.
Accept everything about yourself e.g. that you might have a resting bitch face
Like I do because I look miserable as f*ck in these photos but I swear I am being positive.
And those are my top tips for you!
