June began with me standing in the pouring rain clutching a BLM protest sign, and ended with me trying not to melt in this overwhelming heat. It’s been a whirlwind of the month and to be honest I’m starting to panic at the thought that soon it’ll be the end of the year. I know, I know, we’re only just halfway there, but time flies! Anyway, here’s what happened in June.
Table of Contents
Black Lives Matter
As I mentioned, this month started with me going to my local BLM protest. I stayed quite far at the back – as I was still wary about venturing outside – and it was really inspiring to see just how many people were there. Here are a few petitions I’ve been signing that you could also sign to help the BLM movement:
Teach Britain’s colonial past as part of UK’s compulsory curriculum (UK)
Add education on diversity and racism to all school curriculums (UK)
Make the KKK illegal
Justice for Breonna Taylor
Love is Love
June is Pride month, and I’m sending much love to my LGBTQ+ babes! Everyone deserves to love who they love without being discriminated against, and below I have linked some petitions to sign to help the community:
Make LGBT conversion therapy illegal in the UK
Abolish current anti-LGBT laws and protect LGBT people in Poland
More protection for Black Trans women in the UK
Fashion Favourites
I did so well not to buy anything in May but June? Not so well. Here are a few things that I bought alongside things that I’m eyeing up but trying desperately not to buy.
Books I’ve Read
Queenie – This was A READ. I was in tears closer to the end of the book and I just can’t believe what Queenie, the main character, has to go through in her everyday life. It makes me realise just how privileged I am and I’m going to try my best to use that privilege to help others.
Snot Girl Volume 3 – I finally got my hands on the 3rd volume of Snot Girl and I loved it! The graphics were breathtaking and the storyline had a lot of twists and turns. I can’t wait for Volume 4 and I’m tempted to maybe cosplay Cute Girl one day…
Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race – I’ve only just started this book but how the hell did I not know these things?! Holy shit I need to educate myself a lot more, damn. Definitely recommend reading it!
Blog Announcement
I am now officially going on a very long and overdue blog break for the whole of July which is actually quite daunting! It’s been nearly 10 years since I made my first post and during that time I haven’t really taken a proper break… And I think that it’s starting to build up. There was a time that I thought maybe I won’t return after this break, but I can’t imagine life without blogging so for now I’ll just take a small step backwards.
Obviously this blog will still be live during my break so you can still read my old blog posts and message me on insta if you want some gyaru advice! But overall I won’t be posting any new content on here and will be posting a lot less overall on insta (and maybe even tiktok, who knows). We’ll see how it goes!
And there we have it!
I’ll see you in August.
Love,
Lizzie xx
