Love Yo’ Self

When people talk about self-love and in “loving yourself” I always thought it meant a trip to the nearby city centre and shopping to your heart’s content. It’s something that I still think about (because you can’t deny that treating yourself to a new dress certainly lifts your mood) however nowadays, it’s something so much more. Loving yourself could be treating yourself to material goods, but it could also mean being happy with the things you’re doing.

Loving yourself means being able to spend time alone and not feel lonely, like when you’re curled up in bed browsing on your laptop, or reading a book. To give yourself time off from doing work and just relax. There is always time to take a break, and when you get back to work you’ll find that you are more at ease. Those things that might have seemed like big problems are only just tiny specks that could easily be dealt with.

Loving yourself is trailing your fingers down your face and being happy even though you have a massive spot on your forehead. Those so-called ‘thunder thighs’ that you hate are badass thunder thighs that could crush a weakling’s skull (maybe not quite literally, but you get what I mean).

Loving yourself is buying that special something that you’ve been eyeing up for ages. The only reason you haven’t is because you have been waiting on a moment of success to feel like you have truly deserved it. The truth is, you do deserve that thing, so treat yo self.

self love and other things

“To love oneself is the beginning of a life-long romance”
– Oscar Wilde

Loving yourself is silencing that voice in your head that tells you you are not good enough because you are. You are more than enough, and you should never doubt yourself on that.

So make it your goal to be in a life-long romance; sweep yourself off your feet, treat yourself like the god/goddess that you are, and know that you are loved.

How do you practise self-love? Are you treating yourself on Valentine’s Day? I’m going to buy myself a whole lot of strawberries – it’s the little things!

I love this post, it’s very true that self-love goes a lot further than just materialism. Like you said, it is about realising that you are good enough, it is about silencing that doubtful voice. I once read that self love means creating a life that you don’t have to escape from and I think that’s very fitting too, self love entails allowing yourself fulfilment and pursuing the life that you want xx
