One day I was driving along minding my own business when my ears pricked up at the sound of “the happiness menu”. It was on a podcast (maybe the Creative Pep Talk?) and they talked about it being a list of things that make you happy.
So I imagined my life as a dining place. It would be one of those ice-cream parlours with super pink walls and lots of cute little chairs. 80s pop music will be blasting on the radio and I would probably be doing some embarrassing dance moves behind the counter. And my Happiness Menu? It would be pink set in gold foil lettering – I’m extra, I know – with little heart illustrations. But what’s on the menu? Well, let’s find out…
Hoodie: DaTuRa
Shorts (which you can’t see oops): Primark
Bag: Dreamy Bows
Necklace: Not a clue – possibly Primark?
Socks: eBay
Trainers: New Look – kids section
My Happiness Menu
Well, you got to have some ice-cream, of course!
And first up would be mint and chocolate chip ice-cream closely followed by vanilla. Even though I do love those overly decorative desserts I do find them overly sweet, so a simple mint and chocolate chip one is good enough for me!
Pasta and some more pasta
Italian food is my favourite kind of food, and it isn’t hard to pick my favourite dish (prawn spaghetti with cherry tomatoes, spinach and a drizzle of lemon, in case you were wondering). I go for an Italian as both a pick-me-up and also to celebrate something as it instantly gives me that positive boost! I also eat quite a lot of pasta for lunch too and even though it might not be the healthiest thing in the world, it just tastes so good, so it can’t be all that bad, right?
Cats. Lots and lots of cats.
I absolutely love cats. My love for them makes me a bit sad though because I am a cat-less cat lady… So I make do by visiting my friends who happens to have cats (tehe) or to Nottingham’s Kitty Café! I love that place so much that I wrote a blog post all about it. So when you order this you get to fuss over a cute little kitty during your stay.
Afternoon tea
I always end up feeling super sick afterwards but I just love how pretty Afternoon Tea usually is, and how chill it can make you feel. I feel like I should plaster #FeelingBritish whenever I go out for afternoon tea because you can’t be anymore stereotypically British than taking a trip to London for afternoon tea. I went to the one in Coombe Abbey recently and even though it wasn’t my favourite, I still felt really happy after eating the yummy scones.
Having pretty nails
It makes me so happy to dress up, and even more so when I have a set of pretty nails! I find that my mood immediately lifts and I just feel so much more gal/gyaru when my nails are incredibly sparkly, especially when I wore my Sailor Moon ones. I try to squeeze them into as many outfit shots as possible because pretty nails makes pretty photos!
Receiving new clothes in the post
Okay fine, I’ll admit it – I’m a shopaholic. I just love the feeling of having something new, and the thing that makes me the happiest is when I receive new clothes in the post. It’s like receiving a birthday present but better because you know exactly what it is so you know you’re going to love it (unless you have to send it back, which really sucks, but I’m talking about the things that make me happy here so let’s just ignore that part). The next best thing is having a very successful shopping trip like the one I had in Japan – I couldn’t get enough of the Japanese fashion!
Cosy days in
A cosy day in with a side of hot chocolate and a good book! Going out with friends is fun, but sometimes you need to recharge your batteries and there’s no better way than curling up in bed with a good book and a candle lit next to you. I usually swap the good-old-book with my laptop as I love browsing people’s blogs in my spare time, but binge watching Netflix is a pretty good shout too.
Blogging
Which brings me to my next point – blogging! Gosh I love it, I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t, and I love everything that blogging brings. I’ve learnt so much through it and I’m starting to get the hang of the technical side (hellooooo SEO) and it’s really opened my eyes to all of the amazing people out there. I recently wrote a post on my favourite bloggers and I really want to discover more. This year I really want to focus on growing this little blog and meeting more bloggers – basically, stepping out of my comfort zone! I already took the first step by attending my first ever bloggers’ event at Accessorize, and I can’t wait to go to more.
So if your life was a restaurant/diner/café, what would be on your happiness menu?
Love,
Lizzie Bee xx
p.s. big shoutout to blogger babe Tarnya for taking these lovely pics!
