As much as I hate how saturated inspirational quote are, sometimes I can’t help but feel like they’re the only thing that can get me through a difficult day. It really is a love/hate relationship! There are a few quotes, however, that I can’t bring myself to hate no matter how hard I try. I call them my life mantras.
“Try and make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious, and however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up”
– Stephen Hawking
How can a little blogger like me in such a big blogging world? How can I possibly think of pursuing (hobby) in my spare time when there are already so many others doing the same, but better? Well, I can tell you from experience that giving up your passion simply because of how saturated a market is is a crazy idea. There is no one quite like you out there; even if we all wrote about the same topic we have our individual voices that make it different. Never give up on your voice!
“To love oneself is the beginning of a life-long romance”
– Oscar Wilde
The path to self-love is difficult, but so rewarding. It’s the best kind of love you could ever experience and it doesn’t necessarily have to be big gestures. Something like just looking into the mirror and being happy with the way your hair looks or treating yourself to a nice cup of hot chocolate from Costa is enough.
“Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional”
– Chili Davis
You’re only as old as you feel! Don’t let anything hold you back from doing the things you love, even if society deems you “too old” for it. If there’s one thing that I’ve learnt about Baddie Winkle – she’s 89 and she’s killin’ it! – is that you can never be too old for anything. Plus, I want to be as fabulous as her when I grow up!
“Done is better than perfect”
– Sheryl Sandberg
The other week I discovered that I had 59 drafts on my blog – yep, 59. The thing that made this draft count so high was that I was held back by the thought that they weren’t perfect and didn’t bring any value to my blog. Well, as I have written in a previous post, I want to scratch that mindset because done is better than perfect.
“You can’t please everyone, and you can’t make everyone like you”
– Katie Couric
Boy I wish I had listened to quote when I first approached the internet and the online gyaru community. I tried so hard to fit in and get on with everyone but life isn’t that simple. People ended up not liking me for no reason at all and it was out of my control… I absolutely hated it. I started to blame myself and kept asking, “what is wrong with me? Why don’t like me?” and tried to figure every way possible to get people to like me but it was exhausting. That time spent trying to please those who didn’t like me could’ve been spent on those who truly cared about me. But I’ve learnt my lesson now; it’s so much better focusing in on a few people who love you than try to please those who don’t.
