Yup, I dressed up as a Ravenclaw again, but could you really blame me for doing so on the day that my friends and I went on a trip to the House of MinaLima? Where they’ve filled in every nook and cranny of a super old house with everything graphic design and Harry Potter? It’s crazy to think that even a simple video shot of Harry’s trunk had to be well thought of, from the designs of his school books to his house crest. Kudos to Miraphora (Mina) and Eduardo (Lima) for designing these – they are as magical as the world they designed.
The House of MinaLima
I was in heaven; I’m a big lover of both graphic design and Harry Potter and it was so cool to pick out the little things such as the differences between newspaper clippings from The Daily Prophet and The New York Ghost. I was with one of my other design friends and together we scaled the whole house, sometimes exclaiming “look at this gold foiling!” or “look at how they used negative space!” And yep, I definitely bought a print of the Ravenclaw crest from there… How could you leave without one? I wish I bought some of their postcards now to serve as mini prints but alas, I didn’t want to splurge too much in one go.
The MinaLima shop was located on the ground floor, the first floor displaying designs from the Fantastic Beasts film and the other two with goodies from the Harry Potter franchise. It got busy relatively quickly so it was quite a challenge to take pictures where there was no one else in the shot, but I did my best. I want to go again on a quieter day but it’s hard to organise a quiet day when it’s located in central London.
About the House of MinaLima
MinaLima showcases 20 years of graphic design work that both Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima, the founders of MinaLima, did for both Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts. It is filled with posters, books, and packaging design that is featured in the films, and great for those who love Harry Potter and graphic design.
Address: 26 Greek Street, Soho, London, W1D 5DE
Opening hours: 10:30am – 7pm everyday
How to get there
House of MinaLima is located in the heart of Soho in London. It wasn’t too far to walk there from Chinatown/Leicester Square, and probably took us about 10 minutes. The nearest tube stations are Leicester Square, Covent Garden, Tottenham Court Road and Piccadilly Circus.
Outfit rundown:
hoodie: warner bros studios / jacket: hidden / choker: glavil / accessories: primark & unknown / jeans: boohoo / boots: dune london
My outfit choice for the day was to be a Ravenclaw rebel, mixing rokku gyaru and my inner fan girl. Last time I wore my hoody I went for the cute look but this was a total opposite. This Ravenclaw was best buddies with her Slytherin pals and she didn’t have a care for rules but the same thirst for knowledge. I did feel like I was the ultimate boss girl – isn’t it crazy how clothes and makeup could make you feel this way?
Have you been to the House of MinaLima?
I’d say that even if you weren’t a huge fan of graphic design it would be the place to visit, because it just opens your eyes to how much attention to detail the designers go through for even the smallest of things. Plus there’s a shop to finish the trip off where you can get so many prints and stationery. The place is open until February 4th so go while you still can!
Until next Sunday ♡
