Recent Gal Boom! Popteen Kei ☆

hello

Hey cutie! How are you? ♡ Today I want to share my current gyaru boom (inspiration) – Popteen-kei! Mainly from 2008-2010. As you may know, Popteen heavily featured a lot of himekaji looks during these years and while I was flicking through my magazines I became more and more drawn to the casual gyaru looks (especially Okarie’s coords). Me and my bby Darla call this the “Popteen kei” look, but of course, we’re not claiming it as an official term so don’t hold us to it haha (⁀ᗢ⁀).

So I decided to dig around my laptop for some more inspiration, and here are some pictures that have really inspired me lately including coords from Popteen models as well as models from other magazines (which I’ll mention in another section)! I’m trying to look for inspiration for Spring now to help me plan on what clothes to buy next!

My Current Himekaji Gyaru Inspirations!

Hey cutie! Today I want to talk to you about my current gyaru inspirations. Most of these influenced my mokomoko/old-school himekaji phase and I think I have saved every photo I can on my pinterest for inspiration haha. Anyway, let’s go!

Please note: that I’m mainly inspired by the 2009-2011 era! So when I refer to these people as inspirations, it’s of their old styles.

GAL BOOM! Old School Himekaji and Fuwa Fuwa Inspirations

Hey cutie! How are you? I’m really happy to announce that I’ve finally found my gyaru boom – old school himekaji! A couple of weeks ago I was going through my wardrobe where I was suddenly hit by this huuuuge inspiration to just switch everything up and go full himekaji for Autumn/Winter. I’ve been reading Chie’s old blog posts (I’m talking very early 2010s) a lot lately and have been saving quite a lot of pictures which I want to share with you!

How to do Gyaru with Short Hair

There aren’t many images floating around of gyaru with short hair (especially in comparison to longer hair)… but that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible! Below I have shared a few of my favourites that range from cute curled styles that are perfect for sweeter looks like himekaji to edgier styles that are perfect for oraora/tsuyome/etc. I’ve also included some tips on how to do gyaru with short hair and some pictures of gaijin gyaru who absolutely rock it!

Please note: I don’t own any of the below imagery – these were gathered from various sites like Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, etc.
